Excursions on Scotland’s longest river

Tour of the Estuary – A lovely trip from Wormit or Broughty Ferry passing Newport Shore, the Road Bridge, the Old Lighthouses, Tayport, Larrick Scalp, Horseshoe Buoy (to see if the Dolphins are about), Broughty Ferry Castle, Dundee Docks – about 90 mins. Where do we embark? Broughty Ferry Harbours; Wormit - Woodhaven Harbour. Mapping courtesy of Google and Donkey Magic

Dolphin Watch – From Broughty Ferry out to the Horseshoe Buoy area to see the Dolphins if they are about. If not, a short tour of the Estuary by Tayport and the Old Lighthouses, over to Dundee side and back to Broughty Ferry Castle a trip lasting 60 minutes. This service will cease at the end of September when the Dolphins usually return to the Moray Firth.

Perth – Setting off from Woodhaven Harbour at Wormit, Marigot passes the famous Rail Bridge, Balmerino Abbey, Ballinbreich Castle, Black Earnside (a William Wallace Battle Site), Newburgh, Mugdrum Island, Carpow Roman Fortress, Mouth of the River Earn, Inchyra, Elcho Castle, Friarton Bridge, Sleepless Inch and Perth Harbour. 4 ˝ to 5 hours.

Why do we not provide more excursions? The main reason is that the small slips and jetties which can be accessed by Marigot and Badger give a somewhat limited window of opportunity due to the Tay's 4-6 metre tidal range. That is why you will find that the timetable concentrates activities around points of the calendar where high tides occur at a suitable time of day.

For special occasions and commercial charters we may be able to make alternative arrangements. Let us know if you have a particular requirement outwith the normal timetable and we'd be pleased to let you know if it can be accommodated.

Contact the booking office on 01382 542516 or Tay River Trips for further information.

One of the most enjoyable excursions that can be made during the summer season is by the river to Newburgh and Perth. The scenery, after passing Newburgh, is not surpassed, if it is equalled, on any Scottish river, and it has been affirmed by those who have made the Rhine tour, that even that famous river can show nothing more calculated to evoke feelings of admiration than this portion of the Tay.
